perhaps the most amazingly profound and spiritually touching poem I have ever read. The way it takes you through a story all of hope and tenderness yet has the strength of a hundred men. I fell in love with " how much good can 1 good man do.

MY WORLDVIEW, THE PRODUCT OF ABOUT 8 HOURS A WORD, LED TO A SEARCH FOR WHAT IS MY GREATNESS. I FOUND MY ANSWER IN YOUR POEM.

Riches and wretchedness, inequality, is built into being human but so is greatness. ‘No greater love than to lay down his life,’ are words called forth by deeds which express the greatness also built in to being human. There is not much conscious awareness in each of us of the built in values which make our lives what they are; happy, comfortable, or disappointing.

Whatever your life, you and I, all of us in the western world walk the earth like gods compared to many to whom the accident of where they are born brings a real, present and continuing danger of the degradation of existence even unto death.

As a group, the most powerful in human history, we exercise the god-like power to let life expire in 25000 people every day with seeming unawareness. Killing by economic means is silent and civilised unlike the headlines of even 25 war killings. In our hands their fate is decided by default. We are in denial of our power as gods who rule. Only our denial enables our indifference. By dint of impenetratable complacency we achieve the unawareness of a gated and almost hermetically sealed world and they die.

Being a predator is built into being human but so is the preservation of our own kind. I believe that a world ruled by the values of gorged predators will be transcended by human greatness.

THE SAME IN SUMMARY

Inequality is built into being human but so is greatness. We, in the western world, with little consciousness of our deepest natures, walk the earth like gods as against most of mankind. As a group, we exercise every day the god-like power to let life expire in 25000 born-elsewhere people. Killing by economic means is silent and civilised. We are in denial which enables our indifference. One day, a world ruled by the values of gorged predators will be transcended by human greatness.

THE SAME IN VERSE

Inequality is built into being human
But equally is heroic sacrifice.
‘No greater love than,’ are words,
Inspired by the actual human deed
Of laying down a life.’ so also
Greatness is built in to being human.

There is not much awareness
In each of us of our built in values
Which make our lives what they are;
Happy, comfortable or disappointing
Whatever your life, you and I,
We all in the western world
Walk the earth like gods
Compared to many to whom the accident
Of where they are born has made the threat
Of degradation or loss of existence
Ever a real and present danger.

You might think that we exercise
The god-like power of life and death
In relation to as many as 25000,
Every day with seeming unawareness.

We are in denial of our power as gods who rule
Only denial enables indifference to their fate.
Their fate is decided by our default.
By dint of self-conquering complacency
We achieve an almost hermetically sealed world
And unawareness and they die.

Being a predator is built into being human
But so is the preservation of our own kind.
I believe that today’s world,
A world ruled by the values of gorged predators,
Will be transcended by human greatness.
